What’s therapy with me like? I focus most on Self concept (self-esteem/self-love/self-compassion), relationship concerns, and spiritual and identity exploration as an eclectic therapist. I offer mostly person-centered/humanistic, spiritually oriented psychotherapy, and creative/expressive arts therapies.
I enjoy helping others delve deeper into their thoughts, feelings, and perceptions about themselves (and others), and uncover their unconscious patterns and reactions to undo old programming and create new and more joyful ways of moving forward.
I do this through a variety of creative and traditional psychotherapy methods, such as dream analysis, journaling, meditation, expressive arts, CBT/socratic questioning/thought challenging, uncovering core beliefs, inner child work, etc. My favorite part of my job is helping my clients more deeply love and accept themselves.
I sometimes incorporate astrology and tarot into my counseling, for clients who vibe with that, and that’s definitely something I would enjoy doing more of.
How I’ve kept learning…I’m a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor.
Who do I work with? I like working with kids through middle age folks, but particularly younger adults from around 20-40.
My impacting identities are…I’m a highly sensitive person.
I feel allied/part of/aware/informed/knowledgeable about…LGBTQ+ (part of); BIPOC populations (allied); I enjoy working with human beings from diverse cultural backgrounds and acknowledging and honoring each person’s individual experience in the world, as well as our common humanity. I am working to educate myself on decolonizing my therapy practice. I strive to be an ally to all, including any oppressed or marginalized group of people. All humans have inherent value, and I enjoy empowering all of my clients.
I am the best fit for a client who…is unafraid to identify what’s holding them back and able to fully embrace change, who is curious about eclectic and holistic forms of psychotherapy, and who has the ability to be open and curious about their healing.
I am not a good fit for a client who…has a pessimistic outlook on life, or who remains stuck despite knowing what they need to do to change (i.e., staying in pre-contemplation or contemplation for too long). I’m a quick moving kind of person on a personal level, so I enjoy working with people who are motivated and ready to change once we identify the barriers.
What makes me unique? I think my clients can relate to me on a personal level, and several of my clients have told me that if I wasn’t their therapist, they could totally see themselves being friends with me. I think I’m approachable, funny, and am pretty good at connecting with my clients in a way that allows them to feel safe and also enjoy their therapy experience (it doesn’t always have to feel like work). When things are going well, there tends to be a lot of laughter in my sessions.
The Practical Stuff
What insurances do I accept? I am in network with Carefirst BCBS and Cigna.
Do I offer telehealth or in person sessions? During COVID, I am offering teletherapy, and I actually prefer it!
The Fun Stuff
Did you know…I have been dancing to jazz music since 2013. I recently joined the NOLA Chorus Girls, which has given me an opportunity to learn choreography online and then submit my choreographed video for compilation with others around the world (but most importantly, it was a nice way to connect during COVID with one of my best friends who lives in NOLA). I’ve also developed an amazing language learning streak on Duolingo during COVID quarantine. I’m up to day 340 of learning Norwegian, and still going strong!
Any pets? I have Lilian (Lily) who is a kitty, and Juju who is a Yorkie mix.
